Kids Saving the Rainforest

El Mono Azul Hotel is the home to KSTR, a non-profit organization founded in 1999 by Janine Licare and her friend in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.

Goals

Educate children about the rainforest.

Preserve and protect rainforests through our reforestation program.

Ensure the survival of the critically endangered Titi monkey.

Immediate Goals

The kids have 4 acres of rainforest in the heart of Manuel Antonio, where they are building an educational center. They also sponsored 7 monkey bridges and have installed 40 more to help save the endangered squirrel monkey
(the Titi monkey).

Only 1500 are left of the species found almost exclusively in the Manuel Antonio area.



Raising Funds

The kids raise money by making and selling local and indigenous crafts and

artwork, planting trees in people's names for a donation, special events,

proceeds from the two books, (The Legend of The Blue Monkey and The

Legend of Little Buddy), and the donation of 10% from the profits of the hotel.
Crafts by local Costa Rica artists such as Fernando Porras Alvarez are also
sold throughout the Rain Forest Gift Shop. more on Fernando >>
